●Giclée and
Fine Art Printing Information
●
What exactly is Giclée?
You can find a great definition and explanation at the
Wikipedia
Giclée page. A summary of their information is that Giclée is a
name to describe the process of developing fine art prints from
a digital source, using ink-jet printing. Jack Duganne, a
printmaker working in the field of producing fine art prints,
first coined the name. This was in the early 1990s.
On a per print basis, the process of Giclée printing can be
quite costly in comparison to a standard four color offset
lithography. Artists could easily spend close to, or more, than
a thousand dollars per image for a limited number of prints.
However, artists can now offer high quality Giclée prints at
unprecedented prices through a company such as ImageKind.
Because of ImageKind’s adherence to high standards, high quality
printers, papers, and inks, and most important, print on
demand service, artists can now offer prints to their collectors
at prices unheard of for this type of quality service and
product in the art industry.
